About Stephen
“I want to be your voice in the Lake County Council.”
My name is Stephen Aichner, and I am here to serve you. I’m not a career politician, but a mortgage broker and father of 3 daughters that has lived in Hobart for 21 years and Lake County for 25 years. I wasn’t originally planning on running for Lake County Council, but when I started looking into the myriad of serious issues and challenges that are facing our county, it became clear that we need better leadership in our county. This is why I decided to run to represent District 3 in the Lake County Council; which includes Hobart, Lake Station, New Chicago and the Northeast areas of Gary.
As a mortgage broker and business owner, I have helped hundreds of families in Northwest Indiana to make one of the largest investments in their lifetimes. This requires understanding the laws and guidelines that surround the mortgage industry and products, communicating effectively with others, working within deadlines, navigating budgets, comprehending financial and economic conditions, and being a problem solver. I have been honored to serve my clients in this role and to be a part of an industry that is fundamental to the overall economy, but it has not been without its challenges over the decades. Since real estate is seasonal, cyclical, and subject to economic shifts, I have certainly learned to live within a budget and make sacrifices where necessary…just like you have and how Lake County needs to.
I am the proud father of three daughters. Olivia (21), Emily (18) and Ana (15). For the last few years, I have raised my two youngest daughters as a single father, diligently and gratefully navigating and overcoming the challenges that come with that role. We have roots and a future in this area, and I want to ensure that it is the best that it can be…for my family and YOURS; which is why I humbly ask for your vote.

Why Stephen is the Right Choice
The Lake County Council is the fiscal and legislative body for Lake County, Indiana. It affects the county’s budget, tax rates, funding, and county ordinances.
Stephen’s background in real estate finance and business ownership combined with the lessons he’s learned in his personal life means that he understands the need for the County Government to be an effective steward of our finances, to be more efficient with our tax dollars, and to be accountable to tax payers.
He is the right choice to help Lake County confront the challenges presented by issues such as SEA 1 and utility infrastructure and cost, as well as ensuring robust, responsible growth in our county.

A Solid Conservative Choice
When you’re voting for an elected official to represent you, it is important to focus on the candidate and not necessarily the party; however, the party that a candidate is affiliated with says a lot about their overall principal values and position on issues.
Stephen is a conservative Republican who has been involved in the party for several years. He is currently the chairman of the Hobart Township Republican Party, the secretary of the Lake County Republican Party, and has been the Republican precinct committeeman for Precinct 23 in Hobart for the last five years.
Stephen is strongly conservative-minded, but he also knows that to solve tough problems we need diverse opinions and solutions. So, he sincerely listens and seeks to understand opposing viewpoints and ultimately the best idea wins.
